WHAT WE DO

The Challenge We Face
Far too often, Ghanaian mothers and newborns fail to receive care quickly enough—or the care they get is stretched thin by overburdened staff and underprepared systems. Delays, missed warnings, and lack of readiness in hospitals become a danger no mother or child should face.

 

How We’re Fixing It
We bring life-saving systems and skills right where they matter most:

  • OTIP (Obstetric Triage Implementation Package): Every woman in labour is assessed within 10 minutes, danger signs spotted early. What was once rare is now happening in hospitals across Ghana.

  • Making Every Baby Count Initiative (MEBCI 2.0): Equipping hospital teams with tools, mentorship, and training in newborn resuscitation, care for preterm babies, infection prevention, and surgical safety—so more babies get to see dawn.

These aren’t pilot programs. They’re scaling. They are rooted in our system, globally informed and they are transforming outcomes in facilities across Ghana and beyond. We are catalyzing regional impact for health system transformation.

OUR IMPACT

  • In hospitals where OTIP is active, assessment within 10 minutes upon arrival has surged from 5% to 85%—so no danger sign slips through the cracks.

  • In facilities participating in our newborn care programs, lives that would once have been lost are being saved—up to two-thirds fewer newborn deaths, thanks to teams with the right skills and tools.

These are not just statistics. These are mothers embracing their babies. Families saved. Futures preserved. We have big plans to continue broadening our impact with the aim of reaching 2 million mothers by 2030 with our OTIP work.

OTIP is a hands-on training program for medical professionals (such as nurses and midwives) to help them identify and prioritize care for at-risk women and babies, which has been proven to mitigate preventable complications for women and newborns during labor.

 

OTIP, co-created by Kybele-Ghana and the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has been proven effective, scaled by GHS to 76 facilities covering 72% of births nationwide, and institutionalized within the health system.​​​

Kybele Ghana was born from the vision of Ghanaian health leaders—those who have walked the wards, managed our hospitals, and understand our system deeply. Leaders like Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyoh and others who believe change must come from within.

We partner closely with the Ghana Health Service, drawing on global support through Kybele Worldwide, but our strategies are conceived in Ghana—grounded in our laws, our hospitals, and our people.

​

We co-created OTIP and fueled its adoption by the government.  Our vision has realized - it is woven into national policies, teaching curricula, and even electronic health records. We rolled out newborn care tools that raise standards of maternal and newborn care across facilities.
